The Telos Method™ is a five-part coaching framework for women 40 to 65: Stabilize, Nourish, Move, Restore, Sustain. It is built on the recognized pillars of lifestyle medicine, adapted for a demanding life and a body that has changed. It works to a standard of about 80%, not perfection.
Where it comes from
The Method is not invented. It grows out of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine, a framework used across the field: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, social connection, and avoiding risky substances.
Two changes make it a coaching method rather than a reading list. The pillars are ordered around the realities of this stage of life, and a fifth element is added that the original framework does not name: Sustain, the habits and accountability that decide whether any of it survives a difficult month. That is the part every self-directed program leaves out, and it is usually the reason they fail.
01 · Stabilize
Stress and cortisol. A demanding, high-pressure life keeps cortisol elevated, and higher long-term cortisol is associated with more stubborn abdominal fat. We start here because very little else holds while stress is running everything.
Worth being accurate about: the relationship between cortisol and body fat is real but modest, and researchers have not settled which direction the causation runs. Anyone telling you cortisol is the single switch behind your weight is overstating what the evidence shows. It is one meaningful factor among several, and it is one you can act on.
02 · Nourish
Eating patterns, without the rules. The focus is improved food quality and practical strategy: balanced meals you can put together without spending all your time in the kitchen, and achievable weekly food preparation, because some preparation is part of what makes a week succeed.
The work is about adding quality foods and building strategies that keep you successful through a busy week of travel and restaurant meals, because that week is the normal case rather than the exception. Guidance here is general education drawn from recognized authorities. Individual nutrition therapy and meal plans belong to a registered dietitian, and if that is what you need, that is who to see.
03 · Move
Movement that protects muscle. Muscle does much of the body’s metabolic work, and it becomes considerably harder to hold through the menopause transition, so losing it lowers the floor everything else stands on.
Walking is genuinely good and it is not the whole picture. Some resistance work matters, at a volume that fits a real schedule rather than a program written for a thirty-year-old with free evenings. As a functional fitness trainer since 2011, Bo has spent more than 15 years helping women and men of all ages and fitness levels build muscle and get stronger, so movement is coached here from long practice.
04 · Restore
Sleep and recovery. This is the best-evidenced part of the entire Method. Randomized controlled trials show that restricting sleep measurably lowers insulin sensitivity, which is a stronger form of evidence than most of what gets claimed in this field.
It is also the pillar most often sacrificed first, usually by women who are lying awake with a racing mind and waking at three without knowing why. Protecting sleep is one of the most direct levers available, and we treat it as foundational rather than optional.
05 · Sustain
Habits and accountability. This is the pillar the other frameworks do not have, and the one that decides the outcome.
Most women arriving here are not short of information. They have read the articles and know that sleep and strength training matter. What they have not found is a version that survives a demanding job, a family, and a week that rarely goes to plan. Weekly coaching and real accountability are what separate this from every self-directed program already tried and abandoned.
What the Method is not
It is a coaching framework, not medical care. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace anything your physician has recommended. If medication has been raised for thyroid, blood sugar, or cholesterol, that decision is between you and your doctor, and the Method works alongside it. Read the full boundary here.
The Method is delivered through The Telos Reset, a 14-week program available at three levels of support.
