Can coaching help while I am still taking a GLP-1?

Yes, and this is the best time to do it. While appetite is suppressed, habits are far easier to establish than they will ever be again. A coach works on movement, sleep, and eating structure alongside your prescription. The medication stays entirely between you and your physician.

Coaching does not compete with your prescription

This is worth saying directly, because the internet is full of people implying you should not need the medication at all. A board-certified health coach does not prescribe, does not adjust doses, and does not advise you to stop. If a coach suggests otherwise, that is a scope violation and a reason to walk away.

What a coach does is the part the prescription does not cover: what you are actually eating, whether you are training, how you are sleeping, and what happens on the weeks that fall apart.

Why now rather than later

Appetite suppression makes the scale move without much else changing, which feels like success and quietly removes the pressure to build anything underneath it. Then the medication stops, hunger returns, and there is no structure to fall back on.

Working on habits while the medication is doing the heavy lifting is the opposite of wasted effort. It is the only period where establishing them is genuinely straightforward.

What tends to matter most

  • Resistance training, to protect the lean tissue that rapid loss takes with it
  • Adequate protein, which matters more when overall intake is low
  • Sleep, which is the best-evidenced lever in the whole picture and is usually the first thing dropped
  • Eating structure that would still make sense if you were hungry

Nutrition guidance here is general education drawn from recognized authorities. Individual nutrition therapy and meal plans belong to a registered dietitian, and if that is what you need, that is who to see.

What this means in practice

Tell your coach you are taking a GLP-1. Not for approval, and not so it can be judged, but because it changes what is realistic and what is worth prioritising right now. It is context, in the same way a demanding job or a bad sleeper is context.
